🤖 Build an agent

Teach a bot a task by describing the job and showing it once

Tool · Grok Bot
Task · Grok Bot: skills
Time saved · 30-60 min to set up, then 1-3 hrs a month per task (estimate, not measured)

⚠️ Built from Grok Bot's official changelog as of 2026-10-26 (features can change). Bots share one computer and its files, so keep anything confidential out of folders other bots don't need. Every send, post, purchase or deletion should wait for your approval.

Steps

  1. Write the bot's description like a job posting, not a title: what it owns, what it gets as input, what the finished output looks like, and what it must never do
  2. Show it the task once: attach a screen recording of you doing it (Grok Bot takes videos up to 1 GB) or walk through it step by step in chat, saying why you do each step
  3. Ask it to save the steps as a skill and read the skill back to you; correct anything it got wrong
  4. Next time, ask it to run the task on its own and check the result. When something's off, tell it the outcome you want instead of saying it didn't work

Prompt / template

Your job: [e.g. turn the weekly sales export into the Monday summary for my manager].
Input you'll get: [file, folder, email or link].
Done looks like: [format, length, where it goes, by when].
Never: [e.g. send anything, change the source file, guess missing numbers].
I've attached a recording of me doing this once. Watch it, then:
1. Write out the steps you saw, with the reason for each one.
2. List anything you couldn't see or aren't sure about, and ask me.
3. Once I confirm, save it as a skill called "[name]" and run it on [test file] so I can check the result.
