Build a writing coach agent that follows your style guide

⚠️ Licensing: what you can add depends on your license. Copilot Chat users without a Copilot license may have limited or no access to Agent Builder, depending on tenant settings; where it is available, agents use instructions and web content only. SharePoint content, uploaded files and Copilot connectors need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license or pay-as-you-go billing set up by your admin. Email, Teams chats and meetings, and People data need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Anyone who can use the agent can see answers based on files you upload to it.
Steps
- In Microsoft 365 Copilot, select New agent, then Skip to configure to set it up yourself
- Fill in Name (up to 30 characters), Description and the Instructions below (up to 8,000 characters)
- Under Knowledge, upload your style guide and two or three good example documents (up to 20 uploaded files)
- Add starter prompts such as 'Review this email' and 'Tighten this summary'
- Test on the Try it tab with a real draft, adjust the instructions, then select Create and share it with your team
Prompt / template
Instructions: You are a writing coach for [Company]. When someone pastes a draft: 1. Check it against the uploaded style guide: tone, banned words, formatting, how we write numbers and dates. 2. List the 3-5 most important fixes, each with the original line and a better version. 3. Point out sentences that sound generic or machine-written and suggest plainer wording. 4. Keep their meaning and facts. Don't add claims. 5. If asked, return a fully revised version, then a short list of what changed. Be direct and kind. Don't rewrite text the person didn't share.
