Build a team onboarding agent in Copilot Chat with Agent Builder

⚠️ Licensing: what you can add depends on your license. Copilot Chat users without a Copilot license may have limited or no access to Agent Builder, depending on tenant settings; where it is available, agents use instructions and web content only. SharePoint content, uploaded files and Copilot connectors need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license or pay-as-you-go billing set up by your admin. Email, Teams chats and meetings, and People data need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
Steps
- Open Microsoft 365 Copilot (microsoft365.com/chat or Teams desktop/web) and select New agent. Agent Builder isn't available on mobile
- On the Describe tab, paste the description below. Agent Builder fills in the name, description, instructions and suggested prompts
- Select + in the chat box > Add work content and pick your team's SharePoint onboarding folder or pages (up to 100 SharePoint files)
- Open the Configure tab, check the instructions and knowledge, and turn on Only use specified sources if you want it to stick to your documents
- Test on the Try it tab, then select Create. It starts private; select Share, add people as Can chat, and copy the chat link
Prompt / template
Build an onboarding agent for new members of the [team name] team. It should answer questions about how our team works: our tools, recurring meetings, who owns what, where documents live, and what a new person should do in their first two weeks. Use only the SharePoint files I add. Keep answers short, link to the document used, and when something isn't in the documents, say so and suggest asking [manager name]. Suggested prompts: "What should I do in my first week?", "Who owns [area]?", "Where do I find [document]?"
